The Listening Lab is an engaging and insightful workshop that unpacks the single most powerful tool for unsticking innovation within organizations—effective listening. It’s a deep dive into the fundamentals of listening, teaching principles that conflict mediation professionals use to address situations of profound difficulty. These skills can help changemakers within complex organizations move past politics and connect with stakeholders at all levels, to mobilize and implement fresh ideas. It’s a fascinating workshop, and packs a lot of value into two short hours.
The Listening Lab
Deep listening skills for internal innovation.
What we’ll explore:
- The connection between how we listen and how we innovate, through stories and science
- The disposition and skillsets required for healthy stakeholder interactions between people, teams, and all levels of an organization
- Trying on these skills for size, with a focus on our interactions with those inside our own organizations
Who is this workshop for?
This session is a fit for both off-site retreats and on-site professional development workshops. It’s been run with senior leaders, management teams and entire organizations. Our team has brought this experience to leadership gatherings, company off-sites, and half-day workshops.
How many people do we need, and how much time?
You’ll need 2 hours, and anywhere from 8-300 people.
How was this developed?
The Listening Lab has been evolved over the years by Domain7 facilitators Ceri Rees, Stanley Lai and Kevan Gilbert. Informed by Ceri’s studies at the Justice Institute of BC, alongside Stan and Kevan’s work with human-centered design, the workshop was originally developed to meet the needs of CEO’s who were asking for practical ways to change their leadership styles in order to become more adept at innovation. The experience includes story-telling, exercises, and frameworks that provide participants with a robust, experiential exploration of listening—with a bent towards innovation leadership.
